2nd Bell Dome Comes to Montreal Jazz Festival

By Pacific Domes

Music lovers from all over the globe arrived in Montreal this past June for the largest jazz festival in the world. The 29th annual Montreal Jazz Festival took place over an eleven day period, from June 26 – July 6, and featured performers such as Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Dave Brubeck, Hank Jones, Leonard Cohen, James Taylor and Ravi Coltrane. In addition to the ticketed shows, the event provided lots of free music on a variety of outdoor stages located within a few blocks of one another. It all took place in an area of Montreal known as the Place des Arts, a part of this friendly city that becomes its own little jazz universe every summer.

Bell Canada sponsored the 2008 festival and, like at the Quebec City Summer Festival, they used an event dome for their information booth. This time it was a 24 foot structure that had a unique new look. Similar to our domes that were showcased at the Greenfield Festival a couple weeks earlier, this dome featured a round event door right in the middle of its bay window. This cover design really opens up the front of the dome, inviting people in to take a closer look at what they can see when passing by. It makes for an intriguing display!

The Bell dome project was produced by K-One, a production company located in Montreal. They successfully achieved a techno futuristic look by furnishing the interior with high gloss, quality pieces, lit underneath by blue LEDs to create a “floating” effect. The dome even changed color at night with an impressive LED display! Also inside were Bell cell phones that offered internet access, touch screen displays providing festival show times and locations and an HD experience zone. The event dome was an air-conditioned environment where visitors could escape from the summer heat. In fact, having the ability to keep interior spaces cool during hot weather is one of the most popular features that our domes can offer to summertime event planners.
